Shipping / Transport Officer

About the role

The Shipping / Transport Officer is responsible for coordinating the movement of components from the factory to vessels, ensuring all documentation, permits and load sequencing align with departure schedules. The role involves close interaction with internal teams, subcontractors and external authorities to guarantee safe and compliant transport of both standard and abnormal loads.

Key responsibilities

• Generate detailed packing lists based on design drawings and shipment schedules.
• Apply shipping marks, verify pre‑dispatch readiness and capture component weights and dimensions.
• Coordinate special load transport with authorities such as Kerry and Cork County Councils, E.S.B., Eircom and the Garda Traffic Corp.
• Obtain necessary permits for oversized or abnormal loads.
• Plan and schedule load transfers between yard operations, contracted hauliers and Cobh Dockyard (LCC Assembly site).
• Assess transport restrictions (bridge capacities, road classifications, height limits, escort requirements).
• Record weights, dispatch dates and details of all items moving to/from subcontractors.
• Ensure proper lashing and safe handling of loads leaving the factory.
• Liaise with internal departments, Purchasing and subcontractors to align deliveries with vessel departure.
• Travel to various locations within and outside Ireland as required.

Required profile

• Proven experience in logistics, shipping, freight forwarding or handling abnormal/special loads.
• Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate transport movements to meet tight operational deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
