Temporary Consultant Physician – Infectious Diseases & Sexual Health

About the role

The Sligo University Hospital is seeking a temporary full‑time Consultant Physician to lead its Infectious Diseases and Sexual Health service. The appointment will run until the permanent post is filled by the Public Appointments Service or an alternative arrangement is made.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver acute and outpatient care for infectious diseases and sexual health conditions.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team, supervise junior doctors and allied health professionals.
• Oversee antimicrobial stewardship and ensure compliance with HSE clinical guidelines.
• Participate in service development, audit, and teaching activities.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and contribute to on‑call rotas.

Required profile

• Registration as a specialist in Infectious Diseases and General (Internal) Medicine on the Irish Medical Council register.
• Relevant post‑graduate experience in infectious diseases and sexual health.
• Ability to work full‑time in a hospital setting on a temporary basis.

• Clinical expertise in managing infectious diseases and sexual health presentations.
• Proficiency in antimicrobial stewardship and diagnostic interpretation.
• Leadership and team coordination abilities.
