Xero Accountant / Bookkeeper

About the role

Our client, a busy accounting practice serving SME clients in Kerry, is looking for a Xero Accountant / Bookkeeper. The role involves managing end‑to‑end bookkeeping for a diverse portfolio using cloud‑based Xero, ensuring accurate records, compliance with Irish Revenue, and supporting management accounts and year‑end statements.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and update client accounts in Xero, processing sales and purchase invoices, bank and credit‑card transactions.
• Perform regular bank and ledger reconciliations and ensure accurate nominal ledger coding.
• Manage accruals, pre‑payments, journal entries and maintain chart of accounts structures.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns via Revenue Online Service (ROS) in line with Irish Revenue regulations.
• Assist with payroll‑related postings where required.
• Support the preparation of monthly and quarterly management accounts and generate P&L, balance sheet and cash‑flow reports.
• Provide basic Xero training and support to clients as needed.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in an accountancy practice.
• Strong working knowledge of Xero accounting software.
• Good understanding of Irish VAT and basic tax compliance.
• Accounting technician qualification (ATI) or part‑qualified accountant (ACCA/CPA/ACA) or equivalent experience.
• High numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
