AI in Libraries & Knowledge Organisations – PhD Scholarship

About the role

The School of Information and Communication Studies at University College Dublin invites applications for a fully funded PhD scholarship. Under the supervision of Dr. Stefanie Havelka, the successful candidate will conduct an in‑depth study of Artificial Intelligence within library and information studies, focusing on theory, practice, and professional contexts.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute an original research project on AI in libraries, knowledge organisations, or related information professions.
• Engage with current literature on AI literacy, data and algorithmic literacy, and AI‑enhanced information organisation.
• Develop and evaluate AI‑driven approaches to cataloguing, metadata creation, and information retrieval.
• Present findings at academic conferences and publish in peer‑reviewed journals.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, Computer Science, Information Studies, or a closely related field.
• Strong interest in the intersection of AI and information management.
• Ability to propose and refine a research topic that builds on or extends suggested AI themes.
• Excellent academic writing and communication skills.
