Assistant Accountant – Finance Team

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Assistant Accountant to join our finance team in Monaghan. You will support month‑end close, management reporting and the annual audit while working closely with the wider finance function.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing monthly management accounts with variance analysis.
• Support month‑end close on the ERP system, including journal preparation and inter‑company and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly project Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
• Contribute to year‑end close and audit preparation.
• Assist with quarterly and annual budgeting and forecasting.
• Prepare bi‑monthly VAT returns for review.
• Create purchase orders for the travel department and reconcile supplier invoices.
• Provide day‑to‑day financial operations support and collaborate with the wider finance team.
• Help ensure robust financial controls across the company.

Required profile

• Part‑qualified and working towards full ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification.
• Minimum 1 year of hands‑on experience in a similar accounting role.
• Proficient with accounting software and advanced MS Excel.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and attention‑to‑detail skills.
• Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
• Effective written and verbal communication.
• High personal integrity and a confident, personable approach with stakeholders.
