Assistant Financial Accountant

About the role

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Assistant Financial Accountant will support the preparation of management accounts and the day‑to‑day finance function. The role ensures accurate financial reporting and helps maintain strong financial controls in a fast‑paced environment. It is ideal for a part‑qualified accountant looking to build management accounting experience.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts.
• Prepare balance‑sheet reconciliations and journal entries.
• Support month‑end and year‑end close processes.
• Analyse financial performance and investigate variances.
• Prepare accruals, pre‑payments and other accounting adjustments.
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.
• Perform bank reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records.
• Support VAT returns and statutory reporting requirements.
• Work closely with operational teams to provide financial insights.
• Contribute to process improvements and strengthen financial controls.

Required profile

• Part‑qualified accountant working towards a recognised qualification (e.g., ACCA).
• Previous experience preparing management accounts.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, reconciliations and month‑end processes.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience using an ERP or other accounting system.
