Assistant General Counsel

About the role

The Assistant General Counsel will join the global Legal, Compliance, Risk & Government Affairs team at S&P Dow Jones Indices, supporting the company’s index licensing, data, and partnership activities across the EMEA region. Reporting to the Associate General Counsel and Managing Director EMEA, the role provides commercial‑focused legal advice and hands‑on support in a fast‑moving, regulated financial data environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and support to internal business units on licensing, data, joint‑marketing, co‑development and consulting agreements.
• Draft, review, negotiate and manage a wide range of commercial contracts, including index licensing, data licensing and partnership agreements.
• Conduct legal research, review marketing materials for compliance, and advise on regulatory and corporate governance matters.
• Coordinate and manage external counsel, ensuring efficient use of resources.
• Deliver training to employees on contracting procedures and relevant legal issues.

Required profile

• Commercially minded and highly organized legal professional with the ability to work autonomously.
• Experience handling complex commercial contracts and intellectual‑property matters in a financial services or data‑provider context.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, capable of influencing senior business leaders.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deliver practical, timely advice.
