Assistant Professor – Human Geography (Fixed‑Term)

About the role

The School of History and Geography at Dublin City University is seeking an Assistant Professor in Human Geography on an 11‑month fixed‑term contract. The successful candidate will develop a research programme in social, economic or cultural geography – preferably with a rural focus – and contribute to undergraduate teaching.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver lectures for the Geography BA and Climate and Environmental Sustainability (BCES) programmes.
• Coordinate and contribute to team‑taught modules, including survey, research‑led, skills‑based and fieldwork components.
• Design, supervise and assess fieldwork and other practical activities.
• Maintain an active research agenda and publish findings.
• Participate in departmental service and support the Head of School as required.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent in Human Geography or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrable research track record appropriate to career stage and a clear research plan.
• Proven experience teaching undergraduate students.
• Ability to develop and coordinate modules and manage fieldwork activities.
