Associate Specialist (Lead) Control Testers

About the role

Northern Trust is building a centralized First Line of Defense (1LoD) Control Testing function to standardize and enhance control testing across the firm. As an Associate Specialist (Lead) you will drive the execution of control test plans, mentor junior testers, and ensure high‑quality documentation and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the execution of controls testing, including walkthroughs, design assessments, and operating effectiveness testing.
• Perform quality reviews of testing workpapers produced by other testers to ensure compliance with the 1LoD Control Testing Methodology.
• Act as the primary liaison with stakeholders throughout all critical testing phases.
• Support and coach testers to improve efficiency and effectiveness of test execution.
• Monitor testing progress, escalating significant deficiencies or delays as needed.
• Compile, manage, and distribute monthly, quarterly, and annual test result reports, dashboards, and remediation status updates.
• Identify, track, and assist in the escalation of follow‑up actions and potential control deficiencies.

Required profile

• Ability to work independently under general supervision while collaborating with cross‑functional teams.
• Strong analytical mindset to review risk‑based controls and interpret test results.
• Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and reporting.
• Experience in a First Line of Defense or control testing environment is preferred.
