Catering Assistant

About the role

The Catering Assistant supports the daily operation of a busy catering service, delivering friendly customer service while assisting both kitchen and front‑of‑house teams. This hands‑on role requires flexibility to work across food preparation, service, cash handling, cleaning and stock duties.

Key responsibilities

• Provide courteous, professional service to customers at all times.
• Operate the cash register/POS system accurately, process transactions and balance tills.
• Prepare and serve food and beverages according to company standards.
• Assist the Chef with basic food preparation, plating and presentation.
• Replenish counters, displays and grab‑and‑go items throughout service.
• Prepare salads, sandwiches, breakfast items and other light foods as directed.
• Support stock rotation, deliveries and storage following FIFO procedures.
• Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and presentation in kitchen, service and dining areas.
• Carry out cleaning duties for workstations, equipment, counters and dining areas.
• Follow HACCP, food safety and health & safety procedures.
• Assist with hospitality events, themed days and promotional activities.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties requested by the General Manager or Head Chef.

Required profile

• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Previous experience in catering, hospitality or retail.
• Experience operating a till or POS system and handling cash accurately.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
• Flexible and willing to support different areas of the catering operation.
• Effective both independently and as part of a team.
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Reliable, punctual and professional in appearance and attitude.
• Understanding of food hygiene and health & safety practices.
