Civil Defence Trainer

About the role

The Department of Defence is seeking experienced trainers to deliver national Civil Defence training. Based at the Civil Defence College in Roscrea, you will support the development and delivery of training programmes for the 28 local Civil Defence units across Ireland.

Key responsibilities

• Design, plan and deliver central training courses for Civil Defence personnel.
• Collaborate with local authorities and Principal Response Agencies to align training with operational needs.
• Maintain compliance with the Civil Defence Act 2023 and the Towards 2030 policy framework.
• Evaluate training effectiveness and implement continuous improvement measures.
• Coordinate with external bodies such as PHECC and Rescue3 Europe for accredited programme delivery.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in civil defence, emergency services or related fields.
• Ability to work with multiple agencies and stakeholders.
• Strong communication and instructional skills.
• Commitment to public safety and community resilience.

Required skills

• Swiftwater rescue
• Flood response
• Emergency medical training (PHECC standards)
• Water rescue certification (Rescue3 Europe)
