CLOAS Developer (6-month contract)

About the role

Our client, a leading financial services organisation, is looking for an experienced CLOAS Developer to join their IT team on an initial six‑month contract. The role involves designing, developing and maintaining core business applications that support life assurance, pensions and insurance operations.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain CLOAS‑based applications in line with business and technical requirements.
• Work across CLOAS administration systems, including screen development, browser functionality, batch processes and job scheduling.
• Support application development and integration across legacy and modern technology platforms.
• Analyse technical requirements and translate them into secure, maintainable software solutions.
• Develop and maintain code using COBOL.NET, C#, Java, SQL Server, DB2, JCL and CICS as required.
• Support data extraction, reporting, ETL and integration activities, moving data to downstream systems.
• Collaborate with business analysts, testers, architects, infrastructure teams and third‑party vendors.
• Provide production support, troubleshoot issues and resolve defects across CLOAS applications.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 + years of software development experience, including 2‑5 years hands‑on with CLOAS.
• Strong experience with CLOAS administration in life assurance, pensions, insurance or broader financial services environments.
• Proven experience with batch processing, job scheduling and application support in business‑critical settings.
• Solid background in both legacy and modern platforms and working with databases such as SQL Server.
• Ability to investigate system issues, identify root causes and deliver high‑quality technical fixes.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with technical teams and business stakeholders.
• Experience in a regulated financial services environment is a plus.

Required skills

• CLOAS administration and browser/screen development.
• COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2 and mainframe development.
• .NET environment – C#, Java, Visual Studio, Micro Focus Enterprise Developer.
• ETL tools, preferably SSIS.
• Source control systems such as SVN or Git.
• REST service consumption and integration.
• Agile delivery experience with tools like Jira and Confluence.
• Understanding of life assurance, pensions, policy administration or insurance systems.
