Consultant Haematologist (Clinical & Laboratory) – HSE Mid West

About the role

The Health Service Executive (HSE) Mid West is recruiting a Consultant Haematologist to join the Cancer Directorate at University Hospital Limerick. This senior clinical and laboratory position will provide specialist haematology services to patients across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality clinical haematology care, including diagnosis, treatment planning and patient follow‑up.
• Lead and develop laboratory haematology services, ensuring accurate and timely test results.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams within the Cancer Directorate and broader hospital services.
• Participate in teaching, mentorship and research activities related to haematology.
• Contribute to service development, quality improvement and audit processes.

Required profile

• Medical qualification with full registration to practise in Ireland.
• Specialist training and accreditation in haematology (clinical and laboratory).
• Experience in a consultant‑level haematology role, preferably within a tertiary hospital.
• Commitment to delivering patient‑centred care and supporting the Cancer Directorate.

Required skills

• Expertise in clinical haematology and laboratory haematology techniques.
• Ability to interpret complex haematology investigations.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills within a multidisciplinary environment.
