Consultant in Emergency Medicine (University Hospital Kerry & Cork)

About the role

The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking a Consultant in Emergency Medicine to work across University Hospital Kerry (33 hours per week) and Cork University Hospital (4 hours per week). This permanent, whole‑time position is open to both HSE and non‑HSE applicants and offers the opportunity to lead emergency services in two major Irish hospitals.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality emergency care to patients in both hospitals.
• Lead and supervise multidisciplinary emergency teams, including junior doctors and nurses.
• Participate in on‑call rotas and provide acute clinical expertise.
• Develop and implement service improvement initiatives and clinical protocols.
• Contribute to teaching, training and mentorship of medical trainees.
• Ensure compliance with clinical governance, safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Medical degree with full registration on the Irish Medical Council register.
• Specialist qualification and current consultant status in Emergency Medicine.
• Proven experience working in a high‑volume emergency department.
• Ability to work across two sites and manage a split clinical schedule.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
