Director of Estates & Facilities

About the role

The Director of Estates & Facilities will be responsible for the strategic planning, delivery and ongoing management of the Mater Hospital’s estate and facilities portfolio. Reporting to senior leadership, the role ensures a safe, welcoming and high‑quality environment that underpins exceptional patient care and supports the hospital’s growth objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of the hospital’s estate strategy, aligning capital projects with clinical and operational priorities.
• Collaborate with the Director of Major Capital Development to review and prioritise projects, acting as the central capital programme function.
• Oversee capital projects up to €10 million, managing budgets, timelines and stakeholder expectations.
• Monitor and adjust project thresholds in line with organisational needs, with final decisions escalated to the CEO’s office when required.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and regulatory standards across all facilities.
• Provide regular reporting to senior management on estate performance, risks and opportunities.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in estates, facilities or construction management, preferably within a healthcare environment.
• Strong understanding of capital project delivery, budgeting and governance.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Ability to make strategic decisions and influence senior executives.

Required skills

• Experience managing capital projects up to €10 million.
• Knowledge of health‑care facility regulations and standards.
