Director of Services – Westmeath County Council

About the role

The Director of Services will support the Chief Executive in shaping the physical, economic, social and cultural future of Westmeath. This senior leadership position oversees the delivery of a wide range of public services, ensuring they are efficient, inclusive and aligned with the Council's strategic vision.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Chief Executive in advancing County development and service delivery.
• Design, implement and monitor organisational structures and resources required for effective public service provision.
• Lead large multidisciplinary teams and manage both capital and operational budgets.
• Drive strategic change programmes, including the ongoing Local Government Reform agenda.
• Promote innovation, continuous improvement and best‑practice across all functional areas.

Required profile

• Extensive senior leadership experience, preferably within local government or a comparable public sector environment.
• Proven track record of managing large, multidisciplinary teams and substantial budgets.
• Strong strategic thinking and change‑management capabilities.
