Director, Sustainable Development Research Institute

About the role

The Sustainable Development Research Institute (SDRI) at TUS seeks a visionary leader to direct its research agenda, strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, and advance the institute’s contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This permanent position reports to senior university management and oversees a team of researchers, project managers, and support staff.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and develop the SDRI staff, including project managers, researchers, and administrative personnel.
• Coordinate with other TUS departments to align institute activities with university strategies.
• Expand the institute’s expertise in climate action, sustainable energy, rural development, and related fields.
• Lead research, demonstration, consultancy, and project development aligned with the UN SDGs.
• Foster synergies with other institutes, centres, and academic units within TUS.
• Represent SDRI in national, European, and international networks to raise TUS’s profile.
• Recruit new researchers and experts to strengthen the institute’s capacity.
• Develop and implement a strategic plan that supports TUS’s overall strategic and RDI goals.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in research management or a comparable academic environment.
• Strong track record in applied research related to sustainable development and the UN SDGs.
• Experience building interdisciplinary teams and securing large‑scale research funding.
• Excellent communication and networking abilities with academic, industry, and policy stakeholders.
