Electrical Engineer - European Air-Cooled Chiller

About the role

Johnson Controls is looking for an Electrical Engineer to join its new European air-cooled chiller engineering organization in Dublin, Ireland. The role supports the electrical performance of air-cooled chiller components and systems designed for the European market, working under general supervision on detailed design and supporting production, laboratory, service, applications and marketing teams across Europe.

Key responsibilities

• Detailed design of electrical power panels, control panels, variable speed drives and wire harnesses in line with CE marking and European directives (Low Voltage, EMC, Machinery) and harmonized standards such as EN/IEC 61439 and EN/IEC 60204-1
• Plan and carry out design work, write product specifications and coordinate the release of design documentation
• Support application engineers, designers, factory operations, marketing and technical service, and mentor new hires at Engineer I level
• Report work status to the project team and help run test programs to validate electrical performance and reliability
• Select electrical components by cost, performance and reliability, and prepare electrical schematics and bills of materials
• Contribute to project delivery, process improvement and continuous learning across chiller electrical design

Required profile

• BS in Electrical Engineering or a related field
• At least 2 years of work experience in a related field
• Working knowledge of European electrical directives and standards (CE marking, Low Voltage, EMC, Machinery Directives) and harmonized IEC/EN standards
• Good written and verbal communication, able to work in a fast-paced, schedule-driven, team environment
• Ability to travel up to 10%, mainly within Europe
• Preferred: experience engineering industrial products in engineer-to-order environments, understanding of chiller controls and VSDs, familiarity with HVAC and motor-driven mechanical design, product development experience, and ERP/MRP software experience
