Electrical Engineering Technician – Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Technician to join AbbVie’s Westport manufacturing site. The role focuses on maintaining and improving highly automated pharmaceutical filling and packaging equipment, ensuring reliable production of safe, high‑quality medicines.

Key responsibilities

• Perform planned and unplanned maintenance on aseptic filling, autoclave, lyophilization, packaging and automated inspection lines using a Reliability‑Centred Maintenance approach.
• Troubleshoot and resolve faults on automatic, semi‑automatic and batch equipment, applying Continuous Improvement and Root Cause Problem Solving techniques.
• Support equipment projects from design through installation and commissioning.
• Identify and implement efficiency improvements while complying with Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety standards.
• Participate in on‑call duties and maintain up‑to‑date training records.
• Update SAP for parts re‑ordering, downtime notifications and maintenance documentation.
• Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to source non‑stock components.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of maintenance and troubleshooting experience in a highly automated, regulated pharmaceutical or similar environment.
• National Craft Senior Trades Electrical qualification (essential).
• Experience with aseptic filling lines, autoclaves, lyophilization, packaging operations and robotic packing.
• Ability to work flexible shift patterns, including days, evenings and nights.

Required skills

• Electrical maintenance of PLC and HMI systems.
• Pick‑and‑place robotics, control pneumatics, IPCs and PC‑based tools.
• Vision systems, VSDs, servo‑drives and SCADA.
• Reliability‑Centred Maintenance (RCM) and Root Cause Problem Solving (RCPS) methodologies.
• Proficiency with SAP for maintenance management.
