Financial Accountant

About the role

O'Briens Wines is seeking a Financial Accountant to join its Finance Division. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will own the general ledger, manage cash integrity across 35 stores and lead a small team of Accounts Assistants. The role offers a blend of hands‑on accounting, retail finance exposure and the chance to influence commercial decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the general ledger and ensure timely posting of transactions in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
• Perform daily cash reconciliations for all retail locations, covering cash, card, gift‑card and online payments.
• Prepare monthly management accounts on a 4‑4‑5 calendar, including P&L, balance‑sheet reconciliations, accruals, depreciation and variance analysis.
• Manage the fixed‑asset register and support year‑end statutory accounts and external audits.
• Submit statutory returns such as VAT, PAYE/PRSI, Intrastat, corporation tax and other regulatory filings.
• Produce cash‑flow reports, KPI analysis and management information for commercial decision‑making.
• Calculate monthly store bonus schemes and provide finance support to retail operations.
• Assist with finance‑related system projects, payment platform integrations and POS troubleshooting.
• Lead, mentor and develop three Accounts Assistants, ensuring strong controls and timely delivery.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Experience managing a general ledger, cash reconciliations and month‑end reporting.
• Proven ability to lead a small finance team.
• Familiarity with retail finance processes and statutory compliance in Ireland.
• Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
