Game Design Director – Star Trek Fleet Command

About the role

Scopely is seeking a Game Design Director to lead the design vision for Star Trek Fleet Command, a top‑grossing 4X MMO. The role is remote, supporting teams in Ireland, Spain or the UK, and will shape content, systems and player progression for millions of daily players.

Key responsibilities

• Own the design standards, direction and experience for monthly content releases and long‑term game loops.
• Lead and mentor designers and live‑ops specialists, guiding the content pipeline and ensuring vision alignment.
• Drive systems and economy design, balancing progression, monetisation and retention.
• Collaborate with product managers, analysts and engineers to implement features and evaluate performance using data and player feedback.
• Shape design processes for scalability, long‑term content extensibility and system health.

Required profile

• 5+ years of game design leadership experience.
• 8+ years designing systems or economies for live, free‑to‑play games, preferably MMO, 4X or strategy.
• Proven expertise in F2P systems design, progression modelling and complex game economies.
• Strong leadership and team‑management skills with a track record of delivering clear creative direction.
• Ability to translate KPI targets and data into design decisions.

Required skills

• Advanced spreadsheet modelling and balancing of power curves, pacing and resource flow.
• Experience with game design disciplines: concept, progression, interface, monetisation, retention.
• Data‑driven design using analytics and player feedback.
