Geotechnical Engineer

About the role

Arup is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join its Ground Engineering team in Dublin or Cork. You will work on high‑profile infrastructure and development projects across Ireland and Europe, delivering geotechnical design and analysis while gaining exposure to the full range of ground engineering disciplines.

Key responsibilities

• Design and analyse foundations, retaining structures, slope stability and earthworks for major projects such as data centres, rail links and road schemes.
• Prepare design reports, technical specifications, desk studies and conduct site walk‑overs for diverse developments.
• Plan, supervise and interpret geotechnical ground investigations and provide construction‑phase support.
• Integrate digital tools, automation and numerical analysis to improve project delivery.
• Develop project management and commercial awareness while mentoring junior staff.

Required profile

• Honours Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
• Post‑graduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering or Soil Mechanics is an advantage.
• At least 3 years of post‑graduate experience in geotechnical design and/or construction.
• Strong technical understanding of deep excavations, foundations, earthworks, slope stability and soft‑ground solutions.
• Good planning, organisational and time‑management abilities.
