Graduate Mechanical Engineer – Switchgear Design

About the role

Vertiv is seeking a Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join its LV Switchgear team in Burnfoot. You will be part of the Product Development group, contributing to the design, validation and production support of low‑voltage switchgear solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Create 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings for panels, enclosures, frames and busbar supports using SolidWorks.
• Ensure designs comply with IEC 61439 standards, covering structural integrity, IP rating and clearance requirements.
• Design ventilation systems and perform heat‑dissipation calculations to keep internal components within safe temperatures.
• Prepare detailed mechanical Bills of Materials for structural parts, sheet‑metal components and assembly hardware.
• Provide technical support on the shop floor, troubleshooting sheet‑metal operations and assembly issues.
• Assist with type testing (short‑circuit, temperature rise) and routine testing (insulation, functional checks).

Required profile

• Third‑level qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
• 1+ year of experience in a similar role (including placement year).
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with engineers, clients and production teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks) and AutoCAD.
• Competence with MS Office applications.
• Basic understanding of LV electrical components such as breakers and contactors.
