Head of Art Management

About the role

The Head of Art Management will lead the Office of Public Works' Per Cent for Art programme and take overall responsibility for the State Art Collection, which comprises 13,500 artworks displayed across more than 400 government locations.

Key responsibilities

• Direct the strategic management of the Art Management Office and its staff.
• Oversee art acquisitions, public art commissions and the circulation of artworks.
• Provide independent advice to OPW clients on commissioning art projects.
• Lead delivery of art projects funded through the Per Cent for Art Scheme in collaboration with architects, engineers, project managers and external arts bodies.
• Maintain high visibility of the collection, ensuring over 80% of artworks are on display at any time.

Required profile

• Senior leadership experience within a public or cultural institution.
• Proven ability to manage large, dispersed art collections.
• Strong understanding of public art policy and commissioning processes.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills with government departments, local authorities and arts councils.
