Head of Communications

About the role

The Head of Communications will report to the Executive Manager of Corporate Services and Transformation and act as the principal communications adviser to the Chief Executive and Senior Management Team of Dublin City Council. This senior leader will shape and deliver the Council’s Communications Strategy (2025‑2029) across media, digital, social, internal and stakeholder channels, defining the tone and voice of the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and continuously improve the 2025‑2029 Communications Strategy.
• Provide strategic communications counsel to the Chief Executive and senior leaders.
• Lead media relations, digital and social media activities to enhance the Council’s public profile.
• Oversee internal communications to ensure consistent messaging across all departments.
• Manage stakeholder communications, including community, business and governmental partners.
• Support the communication of the multi‑billion‑euro capital programme and other major initiatives.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in communications, preferably within the public sector.
• Proven ability to advise senior executives on strategic communication matters.
• Strong track record of leading multi‑channel communication programmes.
• Excellent understanding of media, digital and social platforms.
