ICP Technician

About the role

ALS Minerals, a global leader in geochemical sample preparation and analytical services, is expanding its ICP Department at the European hub laboratory in Loughrea, Co. Galway. We are looking for motivated ICP Technicians to join our team on a full‑time basis, working rotating shifts and contributing to high‑quality analytical work.

Key responsibilities

• Operate analytical instruments such as Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), ICP‑AES and ICP‑MS.
• Follow approved analytical methods and published procedures without deviation.
• Manage time effectively to meet throughput targets while maintaining quality standards.
• Troubleshoot and report any anomalies in test results.
• Perform housekeeping and maintain a clean laboratory environment.
• Monitor consumable inventory to avoid shortages.
• Ensure equipment maintenance and calibration are up to date.
• Complete all required documentation in line with ISO 17025, INAB and the laboratory’s QMS.

Required profile

• A science degree is required; a chemistry background is highly advantageous.
• Previous laboratory experience is beneficial but not essential.
• Willingness to work rotating day, evening and night shifts (or a fixed evening shift with occasional night coverage).
• Commitment to a 12‑month fixed‑term contract, with the possibility of a permanent offer after one year.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AAS, ICP‑AES and ICP‑MS instruments.
• Ability to follow standard analytical methods and maintain accurate records.
• Basic troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
• Inventory and equipment maintenance awareness.
