Instrumentation & IT Technician

About the role

This position supports one of Ireland's most advanced marine research programmes, combining hands‑on engineering, scientific instrumentation and IT support. You will work both on shore and aboard research vessels, providing technical expertise to ensure successful ocean‑science missions.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain, calibrate and repair complex scientific and electronic instrumentation.
• Support onboard IT, communications and desktop systems.
• Diagnose and resolve technical faults across instrumentation and networked equipment.
• Prepare, test and maintain equipment before and after research surveys.
• Provide technical assistance during scientific expeditions at sea (≈120 days/year).
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers and vessel crews to ensure smooth research operations.

Required profile

• Degree in Electronics, Instrumentation, Electrical, Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience maintaining and repairing complex electronic instrumentation.
• Full EU/EEA driving licence.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
