Lab Technician – Haematology

About the role

The Lab Technician – Haematology will perform routine and specialized haematology tests to support diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of patients in a hospital laboratory. The role involves accurate sample handling, analysis, and reporting while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, label and process blood and other specimens according to SOPs.
• Perform routine haematology tests such as CBC, differential counts, haemoglobin estimation and coagulation studies.
• Operate, calibrate and maintain haematology analysers and related equipment.
• Prepare blood smears, apply stains and examine slides microscopically, flagging abnormal findings for pathologist review.
• Record results in the laboratory information system and ensure accurate patient records.
• Adhere to biosafety, infection‑control and biohazard handling protocols.
• Participate in internal and external quality‑control and proficiency‑testing programs.
• Maintain inventory of reagents, consumables and equipment, and support NABL/NABH documentation.

Required profile

• Diploma or BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years experience in a haematology laboratory, preferably in a hospital.
• Strong knowledge of haematology principles, techniques and instrumentation.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle emergency cases.
• Commitment to patient confidentiality and ethical laboratory practice.

Required skills

• Operation and calibration of haematology analysers.
• Use of laboratory information systems.
• Preparation and microscopic examination of blood smears.
