Laboratory Technician – Routine Microbiology (Fixed‑Term)

About the role

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our Food Ingredients business unit in Nenagh. The role focuses on routine microbiological testing of production samples, ensuring product safety and compliance with internal and external standards.

Key responsibilities

• Collect samples from production plants and perform timely analytical testing in the microbiology laboratory.
• Complete all documentation according to approved procedures and update LIMS and Excel trackers daily.
• Identify and communicate any issues to the senior microbiologist, follow through to resolution, and issue daily reports to operations.
• Support investigation and project teams, assist in resolving quality problems, and maintain laboratory housekeeping.
• Manage shelf‑life and external testing samples, and assist with internal and external standards such as BRC and HACCP.
• Provide training to students and support other laboratories as required.

Required profile

• Minimum Diploma in Microbiology or an equivalent discipline.
• Experience in a microbiology laboratory is an advantage.
• High level of flexibility, motivation, and ability to work independently.
• Strong analytical ability and a continuous‑improvement mindset.
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.

Required skills

• Microbiology laboratory techniques (sample collection, culturing, enumeration).
• Proficiency with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for data tracking and reporting.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety, food handling, and chemical awareness.
• Familiarity with food safety standards such as BRC and HACCP.
