Laundry/Housekeeping Operative

About the role

The Laundry/Housekeeping Operative will deliver efficient laundry and cleaning services to patients, staff and external stakeholders at UPMC Aut Even Hospital. The role focuses on maintaining high standards of hygiene, infection control and customer service throughout the facility.

Key responsibilities

• Clean patient rooms, bathrooms, furniture and all hospital areas using approved detergents and equipment.
• Follow strict infection‑control protocols, wear appropriate PPE and segregate used cloths, mop heads and waste according to colour‑coded systems.
• Collect, bag and transport soiled linen and cleaning materials to the laundry and sluice rooms.
• Maintain and store cleaning equipment after each use.
• Collaborate with the Housekeeping Supervisor, Facilities Manager and ward staff to ensure consistent cleanliness standards.
• Respond to isolation room cleaning requirements and blood/body fluid spillages in line with hospital policy.
• Assist with end‑to‑end laundry operations as required.

Required profile

• Ability to work safely with PPE and follow infection‑control guidelines.
• Strong communication and customer‑service orientation.
• Willingness to undertake extra duties and work flexibly across hospital areas.

Required skills

• Use of colour‑coded cleaning system.
• Knowledge of infection control protocols.
• Operation of hospital laundry and cleaning equipment.
