Legal Analyst – Data Protection Commission

About the role

The Legal Analyst position is a Higher Executive Officer role within the civil service, supporting the Data Protection Commission (DPC) in delivering its statutory functions under Irish and EU law. You will work closely with senior staff to interpret legislation, advise on compliance matters, and contribute to high‑profile investigations.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct large‑scale inquiries and investigations across public and private sectors, both nationally and internationally.
• Co‑operate with data‑protection authorities in other EU/EEA member states.
• Handle complaints from individuals regarding data‑protection rights.
• Drive compliance through audits, awareness‑raising, and consultancy.
• Apply corrective powers, including orders and administrative fines, when GDPR infringements are identified.
• Interpret and apply Irish constitutional, administrative, and EU law to cases under the DPC’s consideration.

Required profile

• Extensive knowledge of Irish law, preferably including constitutional or administrative law.
• Good familiarity with EU law and the EU legal system.
• Demonstrable analytical and legal research skills, acquired in an academic or professional setting.
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, other regulators, and EU counterparts.
