Mechanical Technician – Mining Equipment

About the role

The Mechanical Technician is responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and safe operation of Newmont Lihir's auxiliary mobile equipment fleet. Working on‑site at the Lihir gold mine, you will support loading, earthworks, road maintenance and other critical mining activities.

Key responsibilities

• Perform planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance on CAT loaders, graders, excavators and dozers.
• Diagnose faults, conduct component change‑outs and repairs to OEM standards.
• Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to maximise equipment uptime.
• Support continuous‑improvement initiatives, including technical problem solving and defect elimination.
• Adhere to Newmont’s Fatality Risk Management (FRM) standards and work‑management processes.

Required profile

• Ability to work safely in a mining environment and follow OEM maintenance procedures.
• Strong teamwork orientation and communication with shift supervisors and operators.

Required skills

• Experience with CAT 992, CAT 988, CAT 966 loaders.
• Experience with CAT 18 and CAT 24 graders.
• Experience with CAT 320, CAT 336, CAT 390 excavators.
• Experience with CAT D10 and CAT D11 dozers.
• Proficiency in preventative maintenance, diagnostics and fault finding.
