Mechanical Technician – Mobile Fleet Maintenance

About the role

The Mechanical Technician will join the Truck Shop team supporting Mobile Fleet Maintenance at Newmont's Lihir gold operation. You will perform high‑quality mechanical maintenance, inspections and repairs on haul trucks and other mobile fleet equipment, ensuring safe and reliable operation in a remote mining environment.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled mechanical maintenance, inspections, fault finding and repairs on mobile fleet equipment in line with Newmont standards.
• Support safe and reliable operation of haul trucks and workshop machinery through quality maintenance practices.
• Assist with breakdown repairs in the pit, workshop and other operational areas as required.
• Collaborate with the Leading Hand, Planning Team and other stakeholders to complete scheduled and backlog work on time.
• Use diagnostic systems such as Caterpillar ET or similar tools to diagnose faults and execute effective repairs.
• Identify component condition and upcoming service requirements to aid preventative maintenance planning.
• Maintain a strong safety focus and comply with Newmont safety and Fatality Risk Management standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a heavy diesel fitter or mechanical technician with strong haul‑truck background.
• Demonstrated fault‑finding capability and practical focus on safety, reliability and continuous improvement.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote, team‑oriented mining environment.
• Willingness to follow Newmont’s safety and environmental procedures.

Required skills

• Caterpillar ET diagnostic tool (or equivalent) proficiency.
• Mechanical maintenance and repair of heavy diesel equipment.
• Fault finding on mobile fleet machinery.
• Experience with haul‑truck systems and components.
