Microbiology Laboratory Technician

About the role

Eurofins Scientific is seeking a Microbiology Laboratory Technician to prepare and analyse food samples in a fast‑paced, quality‑focused environment. The role is full‑time (39 hours per week) with a shift pattern of Monday‑Thursday 11:45‑20:00 and Friday 11:30‑20:00, after an initial two‑week onboarding schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare food samples for microbiological analysis following company SOPs.
• Perform laboratory work, including weight and temperature checks, and operate equipment such as pipettes, autoclaves, incubators and water baths.
• Maintain accurate, legible documentation and training records.
• Keep the laboratory clean, stocked, and ensure reagents are within expiry dates.
• Provide cover for colleagues and participate in weekend rota as needed.
• Ensure compliance with ISO 17025 standards and internal quality, safety and housekeeping procedures.

Required profile

• Degree‑level qualification in Food Science, Microbiology or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to work the specified shift pattern and be flexible to cover other areas of the business.
• Commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy, efficiency and safety.

Required skills

• Sample preparation for microbiological testing.
• Operation of laboratory equipment (pipettes, autoclave, incubators, water baths).
• Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Documentation and record‑keeping.
• Knowledge of ISO 17025 quality requirements.
