Military Interpreter – Language Skills (Student)

About the role

Join the Fort Henry Guard at Fort Henry National Historic Site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as a Military Interpreter. You will bring history to life for visitors by portraying a British soldier from 1867, delivering tours and performances in both English and French.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct guided tours in English and French, interpreting the site’s 19th‑century military history.
• Perform period‑accurate military drills, formations, firearms and artillery demonstrations.
• Participate in historical dramatizations, parades, events and special performances.
• Maintain uniforms, historic weapons and accoutrements through regular cleaning and upkeep.
• Provide excellent customer service and ensure visitor safety at all times.

Required profile

• High level of physical fitness to execute demanding 19th‑century drill routines.
• Ability to quickly learn and perform precise, choreographed military movements.
• Comfort working in a fast‑paced, high‑stress live‑performance environment.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian and British military history around 1867, and ability to convey it to the public.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for engaging diverse audiences.

Required skills

• Bilingual proficiency in English and French.
