OpenShift Engineer

About the role

We are expanding IBM’s development team in Waterford to enhance OpenShift Virtualization for IBM Z. The role focuses on Linux‑based container technologies, device drivers, storage and networking, and includes full‑stack development, testing and CI/CD responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Design, specify and implement new features for OpenShift Virtualization on IBM Z.
• Develop and maintain device drivers, storage and networking components.
• Write and maintain Bash and Go code, automate tests and CI pipelines (Jenkins).
• Gather performance metrics, analyse results and optimise system behaviour.
• Contribute code to upstream open‑source repositories such as KubeVirt and Kubernetes.
• Collaborate with the team on‑site three days a week and work remotely the remaining days.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Strong interest in open‑source container ecosystems (Kubernetes, KubeVirt, OpenShift).
• Experience working with Linux operating systems and IBM Z environments is a plus.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex software and hardware integration issues.
