About the role
The Tribunal for Asylum and Returns Appeals (TARA) is establishing a new statutory body to handle international protection appeals. As a Part‑Time Appeals Officer you will join this independent tribunal and contribute to its quasi‑judicial functions.
Key responsibilities
- Manage assigned casework and maintain accurate appeal files.
- Review notices of appeal and supporting documentation.
- Make and issue legally‑sound decisions on appeals.
- Conduct oral hearings and ensure procedural fairness.
- Deliver decisions within established timeframes and in line with guidelines issued by the Chief Appeals Officer.
Required profile
- Eligible for appointment under the International Protection Act 2026.
- Willing to serve a seven‑year term, with a possible additional three‑year term.
- Ability to work part‑time on a contract‑for‑services basis.
- Commitment to upholding the independence and integrity of the tribunal.
