People & Culture Officer / HR Generalist

About the role

James Whelan Butchers is looking for a motivated People & Culture Officer / HR Generalist to join its growing People & Culture team in Clonmel. The role offers the chance to work hands‑on in a fast‑paced retail and production environment, supporting employees throughout their lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Support recruitment, onboarding and employee induction processes.
• Assist with employee relations queries and general HR administration.
• Maintain contracts, employee records and compliance documentation.
• Help process payroll, time‑and‑attendance data and related reporting.
• Administer immigration and employment permit matters where required.
• Contribute to training, performance management and employee engagement initiatives.
• Ensure adherence to Irish employment legislation and internal policies.

Required profile

• Previous experience in an HR, People Operations or HR Generalist role.
• Strong knowledge of Irish employment legislation and HR best practices.
• Excellent organisational and communication abilities.
• High attention to detail and a commitment to confidentiality.
• Proactive, approachable and comfortable working as part of a team.
