Principal Security Engineer – AWS Security

About the role

Lead the technical strategy for Amazon’s detection and mitigation of sophisticated cyber threats. You will define direction, prototype cross‑domain threat detection solutions, and drive them to production, protecting AWS customers worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Set technical direction and long‑term strategy for organization‑wide security detection.
• Identify and prioritize high‑impact detection problems, providing clarity in ambiguous areas.
• Design, prototype, and shepherd new detection approaches into production.
• Audit critical projects, guide technical decisions, and mentor engineers across multiple job families.
• Collaborate with partner teams across Amazon Security and AWS to unblock delivery and build consensus on security trade‑offs.
• Evaluate and advocate for emerging technologies to enhance threat detection and mitigation.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading large‑scale security engineering initiatives.
• Ability to operate autonomously in ambiguous environments and influence multiple teams.
• Strong communication skills to convey technical trade‑offs to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
