Procurement Specialist

About the role

The Galway Clinic is seeking a Procurement Specialist with warehouse experience to support the efficient operation of its busy hospital supply chain. Reporting to the Procurement Manager, you will collaborate with clinical departments to source materials, consumables, and services while maintaining optimal inventory levels.

Key responsibilities

• Procure and review all material, consumable and service requirements by liaising with hospital departments.
• Place orders with suppliers in line with MRP and reorder points.
• Provide daily, weekly and monthly reporting on key metrics, highlighting gaps and proposing solutions.
• Manage supplier relationships to secure best cost, delivery and service quality.
• Monitor purchase order progress and expedite open orders to meet internal demand.
• Minimise excess stock and obsolete material exposure.
• Update MRP and schedule parameters as needed.
• Oversee cycle counts and annual stock‑take processes.
• Resolve invoice discrepancies and receive, check, and put away incoming material.
• Identify and implement best inventory practices such as Kanban and consignment programs.
• Participate in cross‑functional projects and ad‑hoc analysis.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of experience in a materials or procurement environment.
• Diploma or certification in purchasing/materials management; APICS certification or working towards it.
• Knowledge of procurement processes, inventory and supplier management.
• Experience in a hospital or medical device manufacturing setting is an advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Experience using MRP/ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle.
• Familiarity with APICS principles and terminology.
