Quality Technician – Food Safety & Supplier Management

About the role
The Quality Technician will support the quality department by developing and maintaining quality and food safety systems, ensuring compliance with customer, third‑party and legislative requirements. The role involves close interaction with suppliers, customers and internal production teams.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain the supplier management process, including specifications, risk assessments, audits and approval records for raw material, packaging and miscellaneous suppliers.
- Travel to conduct supplier audits for new approvals, ongoing reviews or issue investigations.
- Review supplier performance and quality, providing feedback based on risk, size and complexity.
- Manage approval of new suppliers and keep the buying team informed of supplier behaviour and service quality.
- Implement and maintain detailed specifications and quality standards for finished products, using customer software such as Micros, Hamilton Grant and FIND.
- Handle customer queries or complaints promptly, coordinating with technical and production teams.
- Capture, record and trend customer complaints, supporting investigations and root‑cause analysis.
- Challenge and review food safety processes as part of the HACCP team.
- Control documentation and maintain the quality management system.
- Update check sheets and procedures driven by improvements, audits or customer requirements.
- Assist in internal audit programmes and participate in external food safety and quality audits (BRC, Department of Agriculture, etc.).
- Implement microbiological, chemical and physical testing schedules for raw materials and finished products.
- Report non‑conformances and drive comprehensive root‑cause analysis.
Required profile
- Experience with supplier audits, HACCP plans and BRC or equivalent food safety standards.
- Ability to travel for supplier and customer visits.
- Proven capability to manage customer complaints and coordinate investigations across technical and production functions.
- Strong understanding of document control and quality management system maintenance.
- Familiarity with internal and external audit processes.
