Quality Technician

About the role
We are looking for a Quality Technician to join our quality department. The role supports the development and maintenance of quality and food‑safety systems, ensuring compliance with customer, third‑party and legislative requirements. The position works the morning shift (06:00‑14:30) and reports to the Technical Services Manager.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain the supplier management process, including specifications, risk assessments, audits and approvals for raw material, packaging and miscellaneous suppliers.
- Conduct supplier audits on site and evaluate supplier performance and quality.
- Approve new suppliers and keep the buying team informed of supplier behaviour and service quality.
- Develop, implement and maintain detailed product specifications and quality standards, using customer‑required software such as Micros, Hamilton Grant and FIND.
- Manage customer queries and complaints, travel to customer sites when required and record trends for investigation.
- Participate in HACCP planning, challenge food‑safety processes and support the HACCP team.
- Control documentation and maintain the quality management system, updating check‑sheets and procedures as needed.
- Assist the Quality Manager with internal audit programmes and represent the company during external audits (BRC, Department of Agriculture, other regulatory bodies).
- Plan and execute microbiological, chemical and physical testing schedules for raw materials and finished products, including organoleptic panels.
- Report non‑conformances, drive root‑cause analysis and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Required profile
- Experience in supplier management, audits and approval processes.
- Ability to travel to supplier and customer sites as required.
- Strong knowledge of food‑safety systems, HACCP and relevant standards (BRC, Department of Agriculture).
- Proficiency in handling quality documentation and internal/external audit activities.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work with cross‑functional teams.
