R&D Technician – Fixed-Term (12 months)

About the role

Alcon is seeking an R&D Technician on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract at its Cork site. The role supports R&D engineering activities, focusing on specification, procurement, installation, validation and maintenance of equipment used for product development and manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

• Assist R&D Engineering in specifying, designing and procuring new equipment, including moulding and tooling.
• Support process development, characterization and optimisation activities.
• Generate and execute validation documentation, risk assessments and commissioning reports.
• Maintain R&D engineering equipment and utilities, performing preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Set‑up moulding machines, change tooling and manage spare‑part inventories.
• Assemble, build and install new equipment, coordinating with suppliers and external contractors.
• Provide first‑line technical support for all R&D processes and utilities.
• Report daily to the Supervisor/Project Engineer and ensure project milestones are met on time and within budget.

Required profile

• Level 7 qualification in an engineering or technical discipline.
• 3‑5 years of experience in a technical role within the medical device industry.
• Strong understanding of equipment validation, risk assessment and quality‑system compliance.
