Registrar in Plastics

About the role

St James’s Hospital, Ireland’s largest acute academic teaching hospital, is seeking a Registrar to join its Maxillofacial/Plastics department. The successful candidate will start on 13 July 2026 and will work within a multidisciplinary team delivering specialist surgical care, diagnosis and patient management.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical assessment, treatment planning and surgical care for maxillofacial and plastic surgery patients.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, ward rounds and emergency on‑call duties.
• Contribute to teaching of junior doctors, medical students and allied health professionals.
• Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with hospital policies and clinical governance standards.
• Engage in research activities and audit projects in collaboration with the academic partner, Trinity College Dublin.

Required profile

• Medical qualification recognised in Ireland.
• Completion of core training and eligibility for specialist registrar posts in maxillofacial or plastic surgery.
• Demonstrated experience in surgical patient care and emergency management.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and academic collaboration.

Required skills

• Clinical expertise in maxillofacial and plastic surgery procedures.
• Proficiency in patient assessment, operative planning and postoperative care.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
