Rigger

About the role

The Rigger will join the Simberi Gold Mine team in Papua New Guinea, working on a 15/13 roster across multiple sites. Reporting to the Crane Supervisor, the role focuses on safe and efficient movement of cranes and heavy equipment during loading and unloading operations.

Key responsibilities

• Direct crane movements to enable safe loading and unloading of mining and heavy earth‑moving equipment on/off sea vessels and at the mine.
• Inspect loads for size, weight, shape and centre of gravity and select appropriate lifting gear.
• Splice ropes and cables required for slinging operations.
• Inspect, maintain and repair rigging equipment, chains, slings, ropes, cables, hooks and lifting gear.
• Ensure loads do not exceed crane safe working load and are evenly balanced.
• Attach lifting devices to hoisting equipment and signal crane drivers.
• Transport loads using articulated trucks, sidelifters, light plant or forklifts.
• Record equipment condition in daily machine logbooks and compile JHSAs.

Required profile

• Proven experience in rigging and lifting operations within mining or heavy‑industry environments.
• Ability to assess load characteristics and determine correct rigging solutions.
• Strong attention to safety, compliance and environmental standards.
• Willingness to work on a rotating roster and travel between sites in Papua New Guinea.

Required skills

• Rigging and rope splicing.
• Crane signaling and load control.
• Operation of articulated trucks, sidelifters and forklifts.
• Inspection and maintenance of rigging equipment.
• Knowledge of load weight, centre of gravity and safe working load limits.
