Safety & Security Counsel – EMEA

About the role

Anthropic is seeking an experienced attorney to serve as the Safety & Security Counsel for the EMEA region. You will be the first‑line legal advisor on a wide range of safety and security matters related to Claude and Anthropic’s AI systems, helping to design policies, respond to incidents, and engage with regulators.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with Safeguards (trust & safety) policy teams to design and iterate usage policies across harm areas such as CBRNE, cyber threats, user wellbeing, and influence operations.
• Advise on policy enforcement frameworks, including account actions, appeals processes, and enforcement thresholds.
• Provide counsel on sensitive escalations involving governments, law enforcement, regulators, and the press.
• Support threat‑intelligence investigations, bug‑bounty and red‑team programs, and internal/external safety testing arrangements.
• Collaborate with engineering, ML, and data‑science teams on tooling, detection mechanisms, data‑governance, and privacy considerations.
• Act as the primary legal contact during safety and security incidents, delivering real‑time guidance and assessing reporting obligations.
• Develop and maintain crisis‑management playbooks, escalation protocols, and self‑serve legal guidance.
• Monitor emerging policy and regulatory developments in AI safety and security.

Required profile

• Qualified attorney with several years of experience in technology, AI, safety, security, or related regulatory law.
• Proven ability to work in high‑stakes, fast‑moving environments and to craft novel legal frameworks.
• Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with a track record of cross‑functional collaboration.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with internal teams, external partners, and public authorities.
