Senior Combat Designer

About the role

Scopely is seeking a Senior Combat Designer to shape the combat experience for Star Trek Fleet Command, a top‑grossing 4X MMO. You will work with a global team to create engaging PvE, PvP, and co‑op combat systems that drive player growth and long‑term investment.

Key responsibilities

• Own design and balance of combat gameplay across all modes, including officers, ship tech, and hostile challenges.
• Build systemic combat experiences that support strategic player decisions.
• Model combat loops, economics, and progression pacing using Excel or Google Sheets.
• Collaborate with designers, product managers, analysts, and engineers to implement features.
• Evaluate performance with data, player feedback, and playtesting.
• Plan for long‑term content extensibility and system health.
• Mentor junior designers and raise combat design standards across the organisation.

Required profile

• 6+ years designing combat and gameplay systems for live, free‑to‑play games (MMO, 4X, or strategy preferred).
• Strong ownership mindset, delivering features from vision to launch and iteration.
• Proven ability to balance fun, engagement, and monetisation.
• Comfort with KPI targets and data‑driven tuning.
• Positive, collaborative approach to game development.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel and Google Sheets for modelling and balancing.
• SQL or scripting experience for data analysis or simulation.
• Familiarity with simulation tools used in game design.
