Senior Engineer

About the role

This senior engineering position is based within Waterford City and County Council and plays a pivotal part in delivering high‑quality public services. Reporting to a Director of Service, the role combines strategic leadership with hands‑on management of a directorate or department.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the efficient management, direction and development of the assigned directorate or department.
• Implement council policies, ensuring service delivery meets the objectives set out in the Corporate Plan.
• Drive change initiatives and continuous improvement across the team.
• Collaborate closely with senior management and elected members to align services with community needs.
• Monitor performance, budget and value‑for‑money outcomes.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level managerial experience within a public‑sector or similar environment.
• Demonstrated ability to lead policy implementation and service delivery.
• Strong commitment to customer‑focused outcomes and innovation.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with elected officials and stakeholders.
