Senior Lecturer – Materials Science & Engineering

About the role

The School of Materials Science and Engineering at UNSW is seeking a Senior Lecturer (Level C) to join its vibrant academic community in Sydney. You will contribute to high‑quality research and deliver outstanding teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Design, deliver and assess courses in Materials Science and Engineering, applying a reflective teaching philosophy.
• Provide one‑to‑one and cohort‑wide student support to enhance learning outcomes and employability.
• Manage course administration as Course Authority, ensuring academic quality assurance.
• Develop and maintain industry and professional links, contributing to professional development activities.
• Lead School meetings, seminars and serve on Faculty committees.
• Conduct independent, nationally recognised research, attract research funding and build research networks.

Required profile

• Demonstrated excellence in teaching with a student‑centred approach.
• Strong research record in Materials Science or related engineering disciplines.
• Ability to secure competitive research grants and develop research groups.
• Experience in curriculum development and academic administration.

What we offer

• Salary range $155,000 – $178,000 per year plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading.
• Fixed‑term contract for 18 months (full‑time, 35 hours/week).
