Senior System Engineer – Database Security (Contract)

About the role

We are looking for a Senior System Engineer with a focus on database security to join the Data Protection & Analytics team within the Cyber Security function. The role is contract‑based, paid on a day‑rate, and follows a hybrid schedule (three weeks remote, one week onsite).

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain database monitoring and security solutions across a global environment.
• Monitor and secure activity on critical relational and NoSQL database platforms.
• Integrate security controls into existing systems and networks, ensuring compliance with standards such as GDPR, ISO 27001 and PCI.
• Collaborate with DevOps and automation teams to embed security into CI/CD pipelines.
• Provide troubleshooting and technical support for both Linux and Windows database servers.

Required profile

• Proven experience with relational (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) databases.
• Strong understanding of database security principles and best practices.
• Background in systems, administration or software engineering with solid troubleshooting skills.
• Familiarity with security compliance frameworks (GDPR, ISO 27001, PCI).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) is a plus.
